Interview 3
Name: Matt L.
A little about yourself:
I own and operate a landscaping service here in Illlinois and have a goal of one day being a children’s book writer full-time.
A little about your family:
My wife and I have been married for 12 years, we have two children, a boy 7, a girl 4, and are expecting a third baby in June.
What surprised you the most when you first became a new parent?
What surprised me the most was how much love I could feel for another person. There are other types of love but none are in the same league as that of a parent for a child.
What changes or challenges did you experience as a new parent and how did you react to them?
The biggest change was in our sleeping schedule. Neither of our children have slept well through the night in their early years, and this was a challenge for sure. We reacted to this by trying to take turns caring for our children during the night and not getting in each others way in the process./p>
Was there a moment when you suddenly thought, “WOW, I am a parent”?
No I never feel that I am good enough as a parent to really carry the title. It’s such a daunting task that I feel like it’s a never-ending achievement, if that makes any sense
What would you say is/was your favorite part about being a parent?
My favorite part is seeing my children respond well to training and seeing how they interact with eachother in a spirit of love.
Was your child’s delivery as expected?
Yes, fortunately, most everything went very smooth.
What is one thing that you think an expectant parent should take to the hospital?
Comfortable shoes. You’re going to do a lot of floor pacing, and so might you’re wife as walking induces labor.
